Should I Repair My Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum Washer or Replace It?

Writer's picture: Mini Washing Machines Mini Washing Machines

On a quiet Tuesday morning, I was drinking coffee and mentally preparing myself for the mountain of laundry that awaited me. My trusted Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum washer has been with me since 2013 and has never let me down. But that day, as I was loading up the pile of towels, I felt something wasn't right.

At first, it was just a faint cry. I shrugged it off and figured it was just one of those weird noises appliances make as they age. But halfway through the cycle, the squeak turned into a full-blown roar. My Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum washer sounded like a jet engine preparing to take off. I froze, coffee in hand, staring at the coffee machine as if betrayed.

The Investigation Begins

I'm not a DIY expert, but I'm not afraid to roll up my sleeves. I picked up my phone and started searching for "Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum washer sounds like a jet engine." As it turns out, I wasn't alone. I found on the internet that the possible cause was the bearings in the bathtub. Apparently, after years of spinning heavy loads, they wear out and need to be replaced.

I found a YouTube video of a guy solving the exact same problem with a Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum washer. He made it look easy, just a few screws and a bit of grease, a few hours of work. But as I was looking, I realized that he had a lot of tools in his garage that I didn't have. And there was a small issue with the location of my washing machine. I was squeezed into a small bathroom, wedged between the toilet and sink. Retrieving it is like solving a puzzle in an escape room.

The Big Decision - Fix It or Replace It?

I stood there, staring at the roaring washing machine, weighing my options. On the other hand, I could try to fix it. It saved me money, and my washing machine has been my faithful companion for over 10 years. On the other hand, the repairs seemed complicated and I didn't have the space or tools to do it easily. Plus, with the baby on the way, I knew my washing machine would be used more. Did you really want to risk breaking down again in the middle of a midnight diaper emergency?

I was considering upgrading to a newer model. Whirlpool had some great options with features I didn't even know I needed, like a built-in faucet to pre-treat stains and smart technology that lets you start loading from your phone. It seemed like a dream compared to my current situation.

The Verdict

In the end, I decided to replace my old washing machine. It wasn't an easy decision. I felt a little guilty, like I was abandoning a loyal friend. But that was to be expected since the baby was born and the washing machine was making noises like those at the airport. I upgraded to the New Whirlpool Model and haven't looked back since.

Sometimes you need to know when to let go of the old and embrace the new. At least you won't have to worry about your washing machine flying off again.
